Would you or someone you know be interested in volunteering?
We are so grateful for the support of our many volunteers.
See below for information on some of our many volunteer roles.
Operational support volunteers: most of our operational support volunteers are required to complete a 10-hour training course introducing them to the fundamentals of hospice and palliative care. This course is offered in a classroom setting.
Reception volunteers answer the phones, answer the doors, accept donations, and complete other administrative tasks. They are the first members of our team to warmly greet incoming residents and visitors.
Meal prep volunteers have completed their Safe Food Handler’s certification and support us in the kitchen preparing meals and soup.
Kitchen helper volunteers assist with light meal prep (when supervised), dishes, cleaning and organizing, and in general helping the kitchen run smoothly.
Baking volunteers bake all of the delicious treats offered at the family centre. All baking must be done on site.
Other volunteer roles include music, gardening, maintenance, laundry, admin, and special events.
Client care volunteers: all of our direct-service volunteers are required to complete a minimum 35-hour training course based on Hospice Palliative Care Ontario training. This course is a combination of classroom and online learning.
Direct-service volunteers receive direction from staff to establish a supportive relationship with the residents and their loved ones. In addition to providing emotional support, direct-service volunteers provide practical help i.e. assisting with turns and transfers, delivering meals, and folding clean laundry. If comfortable, direct-service volunteers can also provide comfort measures i.e. feeding, personal grooming, and sponging hands or face.
Complimentary therapy volunteers are trained practitioners who provide therapies to our residents and their family members.
Esthetician volunteers provide a variety of esthetic services to our residents, including nail care and hairstyling.
